About

Josef Simcic started to make wine here in 1860. Five generations later, Marjan Simcic carries on the tradition. His 18 hectares of vineyards straddle the border between Italy and Slovenia. His wines are the result of the hills’ many microclimates and calcareous soil, known as Opoka, rich with nurturing minerals.

Aging

the wine occasionally spends a few days on the skins, then about 9-10 months on the lees in stainless steel vats before bottling

Description

Ribolla is a Slovene autochthonous variety, which is said to be giving best results in Brda region. It grows best on Brda marl soil (opoka) under the influence of the mild Mediterranean climate. In the past, it was a simple wine as the vine could be very loaded. Our Ribolla, from middle-aged vines, is light yellow, with gold accents; the bouquet is specifically soft (notes of lemon, green apple, citrus and grapefruit) and fruity. The harmony of acids, the full body and distinct minerality complete the taste to its excellence

Description

Golden yellow with copper tinges. The color indicates the method of production, which highlights the intensity and complexity of the aroma (nice flower aromas developing into fruity and spicy notes), full body (the soft, mature and fruity initial taste is substituted by notes of apricots and melons), alcoholic richness with balanced acids, and variety (at the end, slightly bitter)

Aging

2/3 of the wine is stainless aged, 1/3 is aged in used French oak

Description

Ripe, healthy grapes produce a red wine of extraordinary character. The classic ruby color, with its hint of violet, reveals a compelling nose of fresh blackcurrants, plums and other dark forest fruits. There is also a gentle herbal note. On the palate there is a wealth of different forest fruits, with raspberries and black cherries in the foreground. The tannins are very soft. It is a fresh, but very pleasant, soft, drinkable wine, with a lovely finish

Deep gold yellow, with mineral fragrances. Fatty, reminiscent of the fragrances of dried fruit, and honey, bread and melted butter.
